What is compounding?

Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounding medications are “made from scratch”. Raw ingredients are mixed together as specified by a physician’s order in the strength and dosage form requested for each individual patient. If you have a special need, ask the pharmacist to work with your physician to customize you medication.

What can a compounding pharmacist do for you?

  • Avoid unwanted ingredients, such as dyes, preservative, lactose, gluten, or sugar

  • Add flavor to make the medication more palatable
